“A Contested Home,” engages themes of forced migration and displacement in the Galilee, now northern Israel, proposing that intimately local artistic encounters can model new ways of redressing historical amnesia. Working with local artisits who are either Palestinian citizens of Israel or Jewish Israelis, we  explore the right to formal recognition and the more nebulous right to acknowledgment of one’s individual and communal story. Our project focuses on a single geographical space: one place called home by two different groups. The Jewish group lives in Ya’ad, built in the 1970s on the ruins of Mi’ar, whose Palestinians descendants still live in the area. Phase I of our project called on Jewish Israelis to confront the repressed, taboo narrative of forced displacement through encounters with Mi’ari testimonials, asserting the need for full recognition of Palestinian narrative and rights.
