Sahred Bodies
Acrylic on canvas
2020
I held my mother’s hand while she was dying. I panted with her on her final breath. In that transformative moment, both worlds of motherhood merged in me: the paced breathing of giving birth and final attempts for air before death. I encounter my mother every day as we now share bodies. Mother and motherhood, body and embodiment are concepts beyond a physical place. In this series of paintings, Shared Bodies, I’m juxtaposing these themes in relation to the idea of birth, physicality, and death.
