In the fall of 2015 I received a follow-up DAAD fellowship and spent several months in Berlin and developed the body of work described above. I continued to work on this project in Israel in the spring of 2016 and exhibited the work locally there. I painted the landscapes of my past from a new expatriate, insider-outsider perspective. As an Israeli American based in Minnesota, I came back for an eight-month visit to the Galilee landscape where I grew up. There I painted the shapes of Arab villages in close proximity to Jewish villages as a silent dialogue of shapes and color. The landscape that was formed is perhaps calm but at the same time there is something broken, violent, and disturbed with the structures themselves.
